Genre 
Shekar Saxena is arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Priti Saxena. Shekar strongly contends that he is innocent, and that the murder was committed by someone else. His lawyer, Simran Bhargav, is sympathetic and not only believes him but also successfully defends and gets him acquitted. After his acquittal, she starts having doubts about his innocence, and must protect herself, before she becomes his next victim.

Anuradha Verma(Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is a prominent criminal lawyer and a single mother who has never lost a case. The kidnapper keeps track of Anuradha very closely to make sure she complies with his demand. Anuradha gets help from her friend Yohan(Irrfan Khan) who has been suspended from the police force. The case against Miyaaz Shaikh is handed by a powerful politician Mahesh Maklai(Jackie Shroff) to a renowned public prosecutor(Atul Kulkarni) who has been defeated by Anuradha and hence has a long time professional rivalry against her. An edge of the seat thriller drama unfolds.

Vijay Varma (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi Kapoor (Shatrughan Sinha) are two close childhood friends. When they thought they have matured enough they decides to enter law policy: one as a police officer and another as a lawyer. There lives takes a turn when both reaches a woman named Sheetal Sahni (Zeenat Aman) at different places and time respectively. Both fell in love with her and does not relate each others emotion to one another. As destiny would have it, they end up arguing on opposite sides of a criminal trial, resulting in the blurring of their personal and professional lives.
